About The Blog

Welcome to Big Good Thing, my online collection of writing, conversation, photography, and a glimpse into my life as a work-at-home, writer-mama of five. I really appreciate you stopping by and I hope you’ll stay a while, even reading a few posts and weighing into the discussion via our comments.

Who am I, you may ask? Well, you can get the whole story over on the About Me page. I can’t promise that what you’ll learn there will blow your hair back with excitement but at least you’ll know who you’re talking to.

Next, you may be wondering where the name for my blog came from – Big Good Thing. Well, in one of my favorite books, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett (who at one point took a fascinating detour into my hometown of Knoxville, Tennessee, but that’s another tale for another day), the children who discover the secret garden and bring it back to life decide that the “Big Good Thing” is the magical life force behind all things beautiful – the living, pulsating source of vitality, growth and goodness.

Since first reading The Secret Garden as a little girl, I’ve always clung to that phrase: Big Good Thing. To me, it’s always seemed to be a description of the world’s most mystical beauty.

Now please don’t misunderstand; in no way do I expect my blog to radiate mystical beauty. But the name of my blog can, and perhaps, just maybe, I, and all the rest of us who run across my blog’s title will take a fleeting moment to remember that mystical, good, pulsating, glowing, beautiful things do still exist in this world if only we’re open to seeing/hearing/experiencing them. And thus, you find yourself here.

My blog is primarily written for my own pleasure but I do accept limited sponsorships and partnerships with products and services that I believe in. Any time I publish a sponsored piece of content my readers will know that up front. And since I only publish sponsored posts for products and services that I really believe in, you won’t see any negative reviews on Big Good Thing. What that means is that just that if I receive a product for review that I don’t feel good about sharing with my readers, I just won’t write anything about it at all. Make sense? If you’re interested in discussing blog sponsorship opportunities with me, please contact me at BigGoodThingBlog@gmail.com Alternatively you can just send your product for review to directly to: Katie Allison/BigGoodThing/411 Grace Avenue/Sevierville, TN/37862 I cannot return any items sent to me for review. Thanks for considering working with me on your sponsored posts or product/service reviews. I look forward to getting to know you! -Katie
